Honeybee Journal‎ > ‎

Last year I made some changes to the way I took care of my honeybees. The first year was full of mistakes and advice I didn't follow through with. I decided to follow the advice of the class I took, and go with 3 deep brood-boxes and I added small holes to the front of each brood-box to help with ventilation and another way in and out for the bees.

I also spent some time reading about the importance of ventilation in both winter and summer and late in the fall I purchased some all-season insulated inner covers from Honey Run Apiaries. This inner cover is supposed to help keep the heat in while allowing the humidity to escape all winter, and allow the warm air to escape during the summer. The summer part is supposed to decrease all the bees trying to cool the hive on hot days and allow them to get back to work making more honey.
